Don't Cheat Yourself Of What's Good For You

Don't cheat yourself of what's good for you. How do you do it? Do you know?
How do you know what to do or how to get your act together when you're acting as
your own worst enemy?

Choose prompts from the following list that you want to write about to examine this
the specific problem, when it comes to your goals, your dreams, and your insecurities.

Think of 3 words that spell stress for you. Write down at least one and describe why you chose it.
Think of 3 words that are synonyms of your greatest fear and write about them.
Think of the ways in which you knock yourself down, and write what you would like to do to change your behavior.

How do you cheat yourself of what's good for you?
Pick one or more of the following suggestions and write about it:

  • Lying on your resume or job application
  • Cheating on your taxes
  • Failing to prioritize your tasks and responsibilities
  • Not taking care of your health
  • Not taking breaks or resting when you need to
  • Not eating right
  • Binging on foods you know are bad for you
  • Cheating on your partner
  • Not setting boundaries between work and personal life
  • Not seeking help or support when you need it
  • Denying what it's obviously undeniable and pretending things are not going wrong when they are
  • Not taking care of your mental health
  • Ignoring your emotional well-being
  • Not investing in your personal or professional growth
  • Not being honest with yourself about your goals and aspirations
  • Shutting down your dreams because they require hard work and perseverance
  • Not taking calculated risks to achieve your goals
  • Not learning from your mistakes
  • Throwing caution to the wind in the face of obvious red flags
  • Not being open to feedback or constructive criticism
  • Not being accountable for your actions and decisions
  • Acting irresponsibly with money, with your job, or with your reputation
  • Not being proactive in your personal or professional life
  • Not being adaptable to change
  • Being afraid of taking calculated professional risks
  • Not being assertive in communicating your needs and boundaries
  • Not being honest with yourself about your values and beliefs
  • Not being true to yourself and your authentic self
  • Not being authentic in your relationships because you're afraid of being vulnerable
  • Not being honest about yourself with others and with yourself
  • Choosing professional failure rather than taking risks because you're afraid to fall flat
  • Telling people you care about to go pack sand just because relationships have baggage

Write about what you think is holding you back. It might make you nervous and uncomfortable as all get out, but it can be wonderfully cathartic as well.
